Our Arusha-based guides and safari planners know Saadani National Park first-hand, and write this guide from experience on the ground.
Saadani National Park is Tanzania’s only national park where the savanna meets the Indian Ocean. Covering about 1,062 square kilometres on the coast north of Dar es Salaam, it combines game drives, boat safaris on the Wami River and time on the beach. Established in 2005, it offers a relaxed, uncrowded safari that is easy to pair with Zanzibar.
The essentials for planning a private, tailor-made visit.
Every traveller experiences Saadani differently. Choose the safari style that suits you, and Foot Slopes Tours and Safaris will tailor a private itinerary around your dates, budget and interests, including luxury, value and Zanzibar beach extensions.

Families with children, grandparents and multi-generational groups

Saadani is a relaxed choice for families: short game drives, a Wami River boat safari to see hippos and crocodiles, and safe time on the beach make for varied, easy-going days. Our guides tailor activities to the ages and energy of your group.

Saadani is the only national park in Tanzania where the savanna meets the Indian Ocean. Visitors can enjoy game drives, a boat safari on the Wami River and time on the beach in the same park, which makes it a relaxed and unusual safari destination.
Saadani became a national park in 2005 and is managed by Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA). It protects a mix of coastal savanna, mangroves, river and beach habitats on Tanzania’s northern coast.
Saadani is home to elephant, giraffe, buffalo, warthog and antelope, with hippos and crocodiles in the Wami River and plenty of birdlife. Game viewing is quieter than in the big northern parks, but the setting is unique.
Yes. Saadani is close to Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam, so it is easy to add a short safari before or after a beach holiday. One or two nights is usually enough to enjoy game drives, a boat safari and the beach.
