Ngorongoro Crater is the most reliable place in Tanzania to see the critically endangered black rhino. A small population lives on the open crater floor, where short grass makes them easier to spot than in dense bush. The best time for a Big Five safari in Tanzania is the dry season from June to October. Sparse vegetation and limited water sources make animals easier to find, and roads are in good condition. December to February is also rewarding, with calving season in the southern Serengeti drawing predators.
