10 Day Southern Serengeti Safari Itinerary

Southern Serengeti forms a part of the route for the annual migration of more than 2 million wildebeests and thousands of zebra, antelope and gazelle. During game drives at the right season between December and April, you will be able to see the fertile plains turn into calving grounds and nursery for the great migration. This tour will also cover other famous destinations: Tarangire National park, famous for its baobabs trees, the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. You will experience both Tarangire National Park, Ndutu South Serengeti, Central Serengeti Nationla Park,  Ngorongoro crater and Lake Manyara Park.

Day 1: Tanzania Arrival | Safari in Tanzania

Pick up you at Kilimanjaro airport/Arusha airport transfer you to Arusha. We booked a hotel for you overnight ready to start your tour the following day. You will meet with our safari manager to give you briefly about safari. After that you will continue leisure in your hotel. Overnight at Hotel in Arusha.

Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

We will pick you up from your hotel at 8:30 am and take you to a very special national park. Tarangire National Park is famous for its diverse landscape with nine different vegetation zones. The park is particularly known for the abundance of ancient baobab trees (the largest trees in the continent) which fill the landscape and dwarf the animals next to them.

The river of the park is full of wildlife ranging from a large variety of birds to lions, leopards, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes and, of course, elephants. In fact, the park has the largest concentration of elephants in the whole country. And provides unique chances to observe the interaction between elephant families. The lunch area is fascinating, boasting an observatory with amazing views to the river and wildlife (with good chances of seeing a hunt while having your picnic). Dinner and overnight at Kitela Lodge.

Day 3: Tarangire to Ndutu via Ngorongoro 

You will start your day after a delicious breakfast, by about 8 AM. The destination for today is the Ndutu region which is a 3hr drive from your accommodation in Karatu. After about an hour commencing the drive, you will enter the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) where you will notice the landscape changing from hilly forests to plain and green grasslands as you drive further.

Once you reach Ndutu you will begin your day game drive with a convenient stop for your picnic lunch. Sweeping grasslands of the Ndutu cover the region which gradually fades into the Serengeti. The Ndutu is also the home ground for 6 species of big cats – leopard, lion, cheetah, caracal, serval, and wildcat. The action-packed game drive will end late in the evening by around 5 PM. you will drive to your accommodation for dinner and overnight at Ndutu kati kati tented camp/ Ndutu under canvas/ Ndutu Lake Masek.

Day 4: South Serengeti (Ndutu)

After breakfast, we will head to the Lake Ndutu region, situated in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a sublime landscape of the southern Serengeti ecosystem. The drive takes approximately 3 hrs. Taking us across the beautiful landscape of  the rift valley lake Ndutu. Alkaline like most of the other Rift Valley is frequently inhabited by a wide array of wildlife.  With appetites sated, undertake our game drive in the Ndutu region. The majority of the wildebeest migration can normally be found on the short-grass plains from December to April. After the late afternoon game drive, you will drive to your accommodation for dinner and overnight at Ndutu kati kati tented camp/ Ndutu under canvas/ Ndutu Lake Masek.

Day 5: Ndutu Southern Serengeti to Central Serengeti 

After breakfast, you will head out towards the Serengeti National Park and travel in the midst of the never-ending plain grasslands. Serengeti means endless plains in the local African language and watching the grassland stretch out as far as the eye can see and eventually merging with the sky at the horizon is an absolutely breathtaking view.

The Serengeti ecosystem supports the greatest remaining concentration of plains game in Africa. You must also look out for the Serengeti “Kopjes” which are massive boulders of granite standing in a sea of grass. They provide ample shelter to a large variety of flora and fauna. A picnic lunch will be done during the day-long game drive itself. The eventful day comes to an end with a heavy dinner and a good night’s rest in your accommodation Kubu kubu tented lodge.

Day 6: Seronera Central Serengeti game drive

After breakfast, continues with both morning and afternoon game drives in Central Serengeti National Park during your Signature safari trip. The Serengeti National Park is famous for the ‘Great Migration’, with over one million wildebeest and two hundred thousand plus zebras each year follow the rains.

In October and November, they travel from the mountains of the north, southwards to the plains seeking lush pastures. After the great rainy season in April, May, and June the herds then make their return ward journey. Even without this mass migration, the Serengeti is still an exciting and spectacular place that still cannot fail to enthrall. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Kubu kubu tented lodge

Day 7: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater

After a relaxing morning and an early lunch, you will have an early morning Safari in Tanzania game drive in Serengeti later back for a brunch and hot lunch. Today, you will be doing a safari in Tanzania game viewing en-route on the way from Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater. You will be in Ngorongoro Crater late in the evening where the night will be spent on the crater rim. Dinner and overnight will be at Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater back to Karatu

Embark on a delightful day after a hearty breakfast, as we set out for the awe-inspiring Ngorongoro Crater, a true gem in the heart of Africa for 5 – 6 hrs game drive. Day 9: Lake Manyara National Park  to Arusha 

After your breakfast, and then we drive to Lake Manyara National Park. On our exploration of the park we will see millions of birds including flamingo. Monkey, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant, and, with some luck, lions lounging in the trees. This impressive National Park is one of Tanzania’s most dramatically located wildlife areas. Consisting of a massive but shallow soda lake (covering two-thirds of the park) at the foot of the Great Rift Valley Western escarpment.

The Park varied habitat attracts a wide variety of animals, including one of Africa’s largest concentrations of Elephants. Manyara is famous for a Tree-climbing lion, as well as large flocks of flamingos attracted by the algae in the lake.  Later drive back to Arusha overnight at Mount Meru hotel.

Day 10: Transfer you to Airport (End of Safaris in Tanzania)

After breakfast in the hotel, we will transfer you to the airport to take a flight back home or to the next safari destination, you’re planning yourself. This will be the end of your tour and safari with us.

 From January it is the best time to witness the calving as they spread out across the short-grass plains. Predators are just around waiting for their opportunities to make a hunt. You will experience Ndutu South Serengeti National Park.

Day 1: Tanzania Arrival | Safari in Tanzania

Once you land in Ndutu, you’ll start your day with a game drive, stopping for a picnic lunch. The Ndutu area is part of the route of the annual wildebeest migration, with thousands of animals. 

If you visit between December and March, you’ll see the plains become a birthing and nursery area for the baby wildebeests. This season attracts lots of predators looking for easy prey. During a short time frame (normally in February), many of the female wildebeest give birth to their young, dropping over half a million young in this incredible act of synchronized birthing. The grass provides little cover and the young are easy pickings for a variety of predators (cheetah, lion, hyena, and leopard). Wildebeest calves can run minutes after they are born and within 3 days they are normally strong enough to keep up with the herd. After a full day’s exploration, you will return to your Tented Camp dinner and overnight at Ndutu kati kati tented camp/ Ndutu under canvas/ Ndutu Lake Masek.

Day 5: Full Days in Ndutu

You’ve seen the incredible migration, and now you have more chances to watch this fantastic wildlife spectacle. Ndutu is part of both the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. After breakfast, you’ll embark on a full-day game drive, following the migration, depending on where it is in the NCA or Serengeti. 

If you visit between December and March, you’ll witness the plains turning into a birthing and nursery area for the young wildebeests, with lots of predators looking for an easy meal. Watching the circle of life in action is a truly unforgettable experience. Your game drive, and you’ll return to your dinner and overnight at Ndutu kati kati tented camp/ Ndutu under canvas/ Ndutu Lake Masek.

Day 6: Morning in Ndutu, then Back to Arusha

In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, you’ll head out for a short morning game drive in Ndutu. After the drive, you’ll have brunch at the camp before heading to Ndutu Airstrip for your flight back to Arusha.

After breakfast, you will drive from Southern Serengeti ( Ndutu) to the Ngorongoro Crater proceed directly to the crater floor for a five-to-six-hour big game tour classic wildlife viewing. When you first see Ngorongoro Crater, it looks like a forgotten world. Concealed by the steep volcanic walls is a pristine wilderness including sweeping savannah. Pockets of acacia woodland, and glistening lakes and swamps. The Crater was created when a large volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself two to three million years ago. After game drive to Karatu Kitela lodge or Ngorongoro farm house for dinner and overnight. 

Day 6: Lake Manyara National Park – Arusha – Airport 

After your breakfast, and then we drive to Lake Manyara National Park. On our exploration of the park we will see millions of birds including flamingo. Monkey, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant, and, with some luck, lions lounging in the trees. This impressive National Park is one of Tanzania’s most dramatically located wildlife areas, consisting of a massive but shallow soda lake (covering two-thirds of the park) at the foot of the Great Rift Valley Western escarpment.

5 Day Ndutu Southern Serengeti Great Migration Safari Itinerary

Experience the incredible spectacle of the Ndutu Migration during the calving season (December to February) on a 5-day safari. Witness the natural wonders. We’ll pick you up from your hotel accommodation in Arusha and and then drive to Ndutu Area. Upon arrival, you’ll check in then proceed to a game drive.

This Ndutu Migration Safari During Calving tour has been designed specifically to focus on and to increase your chance to see the great Serengeti wildebeest migration. The Southern Serengeti and Ndutu areas in Tanzania are the best locations for the months of January, February and March to witness thousands of wildebeest spread across the plains grazing on the rich short grass plains. Predator action is at its peak with great sightings of cheetah, lion, hyena and leopard and a very good chance to see adrenalin packed kills.

Day 1: Tanzania Arrival | Safari in Tanzania

Pick up you at Kilimanjaro airport/Arusha airport transfer you to Arusha. We booked a hotel for you overnight ready to start your tour the following day. You will meet with our safari manager to give you briefly about safari. After that you will continue leisure in your hotel. Overnight at Hotel in Arusha.

Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

We will pick you up from your hotel at 8:30 am and take you to a very special national park. Tarangire National Park is famous for its diverse landscape with nine different vegetation zones. The park is particularly known for the abundance of ancient baobab trees (the largest trees in the continent) which fill the landscape and dwarf the animals next to them.

The river of the park is full of wildlife ranging from a large variety of birds to lions, leopards, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes and, of course, elephants. In fact, the park has the largest concentration of elephants in the whole country and provides unique chances to observe the interaction between elephant families. The lunch area is fascinating, boasting an observatory with amazing views to the river and wildlife (with good chances of seeing a hunt while having your picnic). Dinner and overnight at Kitela Lodge.

Day 3:  Kitela lodge to Ngorongoro Crater – Ndutu

After a relaxing morning and an early breakfast at the lodge, you will have an early in the en-route game drive into Ngorongoro crater top destination where you can spot the Big5 if you are lucky enough. Proceed directly to the crater floor for your 5 – 6 hrs  tour with a picnic lunch down the crater whereby you will be able to see all the “Big Five”. After game drive in Ngorongoro conservation area you will have en route scenic game viewing to magical southern Serengeti Ndutu area.  Later, you will proceed back to in the evening for dinner and overnight at Ndutu kati kati tented camp/ Ndutu under canvas/ Ndutu Lake Masek. 

Day 4: Full Game Viewing in Ndutu area

Wake up early you’ll be up before dawn so that we can enjoy a sunrise game drive along the shores of Lake Ndutu. As far as the eye can see, thousands upon thousands of animals graze on the lush grass. Enjoy a day long game drive through the region, taking in the shores of both Lake Ndutu and Lake Masek as well as the surrounding land where tens of thousands of young wildebeest take their first steps. Your guide will determine the best route to take today so you have the best possible chance of witnessing the Wildebeest Migration. After your day long exploration of Ndutu, you’ll stay overnight in the region. Ndutu kati kati tented camp/ Ndutu under canvas/ Ndutu Lake Masek. 

Day 5:  Ndutu airstrip to Arusha/Kilimanjaro Airport (End of Safaris in Tanzania)

Your will have final early morning game drive in Southern Serengeti Ndutu area,  and then drive back to accommodation, after breakfast in the hotel, we will transfer you to Ndutu airstrip to fly out to Arusha or Kilimanjaro/ Zanzibar from Ndutu.  If you fly to Arusha airport we will pick up there transfer you to Kilimanjaro airport fly back home or to the next safari destination, you’re planning yourself. This will be the end of your tour and safari with us.

Day 1 : Arrival in Arusha to Southern Serengeti

You will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Ndutu, covering a distance of 260 km. While in transit, you will pass through the Ngorongoro Highlands and make a stop at a spectacular Crater viewpoint. Afterward, you will continue your safari to the southern Serengeti endless plains where you can witness groups of wildebeest grazing. On this day, you also have the option to visit a Maasai Boma for a cultural exchange experience. Day 2 : Southern Serengeti

In the afternoon you will stop for lunch in the bush and then continue on a game drive until sunset. You will then drive back to the Ndutu Kati kati tented camp/ ndutu under canvas/ Masek tented lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 3 : Lake Ndutu – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, you will embark on an early morning game drive in Ndutu and then head back to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will check-out and embark on an exciting game drive as you drive to the Ngorongoro Crater rim. Upon arrival, you will check-in at the Ngorongoro Serena lodge, have dinner and settle in for your overnight stay.

Day 4 : Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha –

After an early breakfast, you will check-out and begin your descent to the crater floor for a once in a lifetime game drive. You will see the “Big Five”, as well as other animals like zebra, hippo, wildebeest, hyena, and more. The crater is also home to a wide variety of birds, including the majestic pink flamingo on the Soda Lake, geese, stork, vulture, and more. Lunch will be served in the picnic site by the swamp where you can watch hippo swimming around in the pool. After lunch, you will ascend back to the crater rim and drive back to Arusha. Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at your hotel or airport. This is where your safari will end.

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Pick up you at Kilimanjaro airport/Arusha airport transfer you to Arusha. We booked a hotel for you overnight ready to start your tour the following day. You will meet with our safari manager to give you briefly about safari. After that you will continue leisure in your hotel. Overnight at Mount Meru Hotel or Arusha Gran Melia Hotel.

Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

We will pick you from your hotel at 8:30 am and then we drive to Tarangire National Park for game viewing. The Park runs along the line of the Tarangire River and is mainly made up of low-lying hills on the Great Rift Valley floor. Its natural vegetation mainly consists of Acacia woodland and giant African Baobab trees, with huge swamp areas in the south.

The best base camp Safari Tanzania takes you to the best safari location and sees both the river and the swamps act like a magnet for wild animals, during Tanzania’s dry season. Tarangire National Park is reputed to contain some of the largest elephant herds in Africa. Later proceed for dinner and overnight at Kitela Karatu lodge/ Ngorongoro farm House

Day 3: Tarangire to Central Serengeti game drive

After breakfast, we depart from the accommodation and drive to Serengeti across Ngorongoro Conservation Area and later arrive on the great Serengeti plains for a different but just as spectacular wildlife viewing experience.

Then you will have one of the world’s greatest adventure safari with us. You will reach at Naabi gate around 14:30 pm. Then after the game drive, you will continue your way over the scrub-lands and you will have 2 hrs late evening game drive in Serengeti National Park. overnight and dinner at Central Kubu kubu tented Lodge

Day 4: Central Serengeti to Southern Serengeti National Park

After breakfast in the morning, depart for a game drive with packed lunch. you will have a central Serengeti game drive follow by en-route game viewing to Southern Serengeti. Depending on the time of the year, this eight days calving season safari will be located in southern Serengeti where you will see migration animals delivering babies. Later in the evening back to the Ndutu Under Canvas Tented camp or lodge for diner and overnight. Lake Masek tented Lodge

Day 5: Southern Serengeti National Park

You will start the day after breakfast for animal sightings in Ndutu plains, southern Serengeti for witnessing the calving. The southern part of Serengeti is covered by short grasslands which attract herbivores of many types making the visibility slightly easy compared to open grassland. You can expect crocodiles preying on wildebeest. On this night, you will stay in Southern Serengeti Ndutu under Canvas or  Lake Masek tented Lodge. Today’s meal plan includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 6: Southern Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro crater

After a relaxing morning and an early lunch, you will have early in the morning start your game drive in Serengeti later back to drive you to picnic site for branch and hot lunch, Our driver and cook will load everything on the top of our safari jeep after then continue with the game drive while looking to be our of Serengeti to proceed to Ngorongoro.

Today, you will be doing a game viewing en-route during your way from Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater. You will be in Ngorongoro Crater late in the evening where the night will be spent on the crater rim. Dinner and overnight will be at Rhino lodge or Lions Paw Ngorongoro or  Ngorongoro Serena lodge

Day 7: Ngorongoro to Arusha

On our last day we start very early in the morning equipped with a picnic lunch we descend 2000 ft. down to the Crater floor by our 4×4- 4WD – wheel drive vehicle for game viewing for 5-6hrs. Let explore this Garden of Eden. Ngorongoro is a huge and deep volcanic Crater.

There is rich pasture, swamps, forest, and permanent water on the Crater floor that is why wildlife here is so diverse and numerous. Late in the afternoon drive back to Overnight at Mount Meru Hotel or Arusha Gran Melia Hotel.

Day 8: Transfer you to Airport (End of Safaris in Tanzania)

After breakfast in the hotel, we will transfer you to the airport to take a flight back home or to the next safari destination, you’re planning yourself. This will be the end of your tour and safari with us.
