Machame Route is one of the most favoured routes for number of hikers. The reason behind this is the highest success rate, great for acclimatization and this route also allows the climbers to naturally “walk high and sleep low”.
The route offers great scenery, which changes every day as you walk higher. If summiting Kilimanjaro is your ultimate priority, then Machame route will give you the best result.
Machame route is undoubtedly the most crowded route, since it holds a great success rate and is really attractive.

Even though the Machame route
can be conquered over 6 days, normally 7 days is recommended for this. The extra days can make a huge difference to the success rate as it improves the acclimatization and allows you to summit easily.
The Machame Route is known as the “Whiskey Route” in comparison to Marangu’s “Coca Cola Route”. This is because Machame is a more difficult route, and does not have sleeping huts for accommodation like Marangu Route. Machame is the most popular and challenge route when considering to get to the Kilimanjaro mountain with best scenic views
The trek starts in the south-west area of the mountain at Machame Gate. The route takings six days minimum to thorough, although you can trek Kilimanjaro via Machame in 7 days. The descent is down Mweka, on the south-east side of the mountain.
Machame Route is one of the best options for climbing Kilimanjaro and reputed to have the highest success rate. This scenic route offers a longer period for acclimatization and takes different routes up and down the mountain so you don’t do any backtracking over the same terrain. It features a tented camping experience as opposed to the Marangu Route which makes use of an extensive mountain hut system
